The idea: GiftGuru, a gift registry site that helps gift-givers and receivers land just the right gift, and helps retailers avoid costly returns. Here’s how it works: say my birthday is coming up and I want to make sure I get exactly what I want. I go to GiftGuru’s website, install the browser bookmarklet and begin populating my registry by shopping online as I normally would. I might go to Amazon and find a gadget I want, which I bookmark. I am prompted to add specific details about the gadget (color, size, etc). The items I’ve bookmarked then appear in my registry as thumbnails that link back to the retail sites. I publish my registry and share it via email, Facebook and Twitter. Friends and family can then purchase my registry items for me. If an item is purchased on Amazon (or any company with an affiliate credit program), GiftGuru gets a kickback for facilitating the transaction.
